Camouflaging white hair, straightening it to change your look, can be a good idea to get a makeover. But this habit can be dangerous and harmful to health. According to a recent American study carried out by researchers of the National Institute of Health, one learns that the hair colorings increase by 9% the risk of developing breast cancer. Women who dye their hair frequently, at least once every eight weeks, are most likely to develop cancer, the survey found. It is noted that researchers have also found that the risk is higher for black women.
The study, which looked at 45,000 women who used these chemicals, found that at least 2,800 women had breast cancer. For at least eight years, scientists closely followed these 45,000 women between the ages of 35 and 64, who answered a questionnaire about their health. 22,500 women reported that they regularly apply hair dyes. It should be noted that the chemicals contained in a tincture could be the main culprits, because they can cause DNA breaks and cause cancer, underlines the researcher Alexandra White, who worked on this investigation.
It is also noted that, apart from these chemicals that are applied to the scalp, frequent use of the straightening iron alone increases the risk of developing cancer by 18%.
We also contacted the oncologist Boutheina Laamouri to shed more light on these risks that women who adhere to coloring, keratin, proteins can run. the doctor explained to us that it is hasty to confirm this hypothesis and that further studies are needed to draw such conclusions.
“The study is still recent, it is recommended to wait a bit, to have discussions before talking about it,” she informed us.
In the meantime, women adepts of all these chemicals, namely permanent dyes, semi-permanent and others and those who frequently use straighteners and other products such as keratin and proteins…. to straighten hair, must be more careful and limit their use as much as possible in order to preserve their health capital and ward off the risk of breast cancer.
